Failing to Respond to a
Traffic Infraction
The Court system is set up to punish people who do not defend themselves. This is especially true with traffic infractions. The law only gives you 15 days to respond to the ticket. If you don t respond within that time, several bad things happen:
The Court will find that you committed the infraction
Even if you are not guilty, the Court will enter a committed finding against you. This means that any defenses you had to the ticket are now useless.
The Penalty will be increased
This means that the Court will raise the amount of money you owe beyond the amount listed on the ticket. This is a complete waste of you money. Don t give the Court any more than they deserve!
Loss of Driver s License
Failure to respond to a traffic ticket can cause you to lose your license. This does not happen immediately and the Department of Licensing will send you notice before they suspend your license - but if you ignore the notices then you really can lose your license. Collections Companies
To add insult to injury, the fine imposed on you will likely be transferred to a collection company. You can call the Clerk s Office in the Court that handled your ticket and find out which collection company has been assigned to your case.
